{"id":2,"date":"2016-09-22T17:31:21","date_gmt":"2016-09-22T17:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2023-05-28T19:47:09","modified_gmt":"2023-05-28T19:47:09","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"page\" class=\"hfeed site\">\n<div class=\"mega-container\">\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"site-content container\">\n<div id=\"primary-mono\" class=\"content-area col-md-8 page\">\n<article id=\"post-2\" class=\"post-2 page type-page status-publish hentry\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div class=\"title-bar\">\n<div class=\"standard-page\">\n<blockquote><p>My name is Chelsea Nanawa and I am a senior at the University of New Mexico (UNM) majoring in media arts.\u00a0 I am so fortunate that I was selected to attend the 43rd Telluride Film Festival (TFF) in Telluride, CO and that I was able to participate.\u00a0 This amazing film festival took place\u00a0over the Labor Day weekend \u2014 September 2-5, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/View-from-The-Peaks-Hotel-1024x576-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-109 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/View-from-The-Peaks-Hotel-1024x576-2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/View-from-The-Peaks-Hotel-1024x576-2-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/View-from-The-Peaks-Hotel-1024x576-2-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/View-from-The-Peaks-Hotel-1024x576-2.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Professor Konefsky was\u00a0instrumental in my nomination and selection\u00a0as one of the fifty students to attend the\u00a043rd Telluride Film Festival!\u00a0 I am\u00a0a member of a non-profit organization, Basement Films, in Albuq., NM where\u00a0I work\u00a0under the tutelage of\u00a0President Bryan Konefsky.\u00a0\u00a0I have\u00a0helped produce various film festival works and assisted with multiple school outreach workshops and presentations.<\/p>\n<p>This was an awesome experience to meet filmmakers from all walks of life! My time in Telluride for the TFF was completely exhausting, riveting and educational all in one. The Cinephile scholarship granted me a Cinephile pass and my lodging paid for at the beautiful Peaks Resort and Spa. My typical day consisted of me waking up to the breathtaking views of the mountain village, circling all the films on my menu that I hope to catch that day, grabbing some breakfast and then taking the 13 minute gondola ride into the town of Telluride to start my intense, yet amazing movie-watching expedition.<\/p>\n<p><!-- <a href=\"http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/View-from-The-Peaks-Hotel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-59 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/elvananawa.com\/Telluride\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/View-from-The-Peaks-Hotel-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"view-from-the-peaks-hotel\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a> --><\/p>\n<p>Over the three-day weekend, I was able to view about 12 films with unfortunately many more to spare. I usually began my day around 8 or 9 a.m. and did not find myself returning to my hotel room until about 2 a.m. There was practically no time to eat or rest, so eating had to be done while walking to the next film showing and resting was done while waiting in line to get inside the theatre. My eyes were exposed to so much cinematic artistry, I was completely overwhelmed and in complete bliss. My Cinephile heart was substantially full after leaving each film with my expectations (usually) greatly exceeded.<\/p>\n<p>I walked around the town of Telluride going from theatre to theatre occasionally coming across some celebrities and directors like Jennifer Garner, Emma Stone, Casey Affleck, Kenneth Lonergan and Barry Jenkins. I actually almost bumped into Tom Hanks as I was sprinting (uphill) in the rain to make it in time for another film. Overall, I came out of this experience with a new appreciation for the cinematic arts and with even more inspiration and passion for this field. My time at the Telluride Film Festival has confirmed that my pursuit in the cinematic arts is not in vain \u2013 it is exactly the opposite. It is a field with great respectability, splendor and finesse.<\/p>\n<p><!-- The Telluride Film Festival represents the rarest jewel in the crown of the festival-going experience. It is the most open, democratic and collegial of festivals, in addition to being one of the best programmed and run.\n\nEach Labor Day weekend, the tiny mountain village of Telluride, Colorado triples in size. Swells of passionate film enthusiasts flood the town for four days of total cinematic immersion, embarking on a viewing odyssey, blissfully spending entire days in flickering dark rooms. With only an appreciation of celluloid to guide them, these devotees flock to the show, year after year. Why? Blind faith. We don\u2019t reveal the program until everyone lands in town. Yet the Telluride family trusts that a unique experience will unfold.\n\n\n<div class=\"standard-body\">\n\nThe Telluride Film Festival is not just a picture show. It is Tributes to luminaries who\u2019ve propelled the medium forward; it is candid discussions with a film\u2019s creator or the historian who champions it; it is discovering that the person in line behind you made the film you just enjoyed; it is engaging in lively debate with every manner of film lover in the summer sun of a Colorado afternoon, always minutes away from a new exhibition.\n\nWe take great pains to remain not a competition, but a celebration of the best in film \u2014 past, present and future \u2014 from all around the world. This is one weekend immersed in an unabashed carnival of film: viewing, breathing, eating, and talking cinema.
